Frequently Asked Questions
Are There Age Limits On Getting Braces?
In short, No! But, generally no one gets braces before their permanent teeth erupt. An initial consultation is recommended at Age 7. It is rare for treatment to begin at that age, but it helps ensure treatment isn't made more difficult in the future by unmonitored problems. Usually treatment begins around age 11 or 12, but patients with good hygiene and periodontal health can usually get braces at any age.
How Much Do Braces Cost?
The cost varies depending on the type of braces, difficulty and length of treatment. To know exactly how much your braces would cost, schedule a free consultation by calling 752-8686 and we will tell you at that visit. We do offer, in office, no interest financing with payments spread out over multiple months.
Will It Hurt?
Getting braces placed on your teeth is not a painful process, we simply "glue" the braces onto your teeth. What you will feel is the pressure on your gums as the teeth begin to move. It is usually a dull ache that will last between 3-7 days. Ibuprofen works well to control the pain. For most patients, we recommend taking Ibuprofen one hour before you get the braces on and continuing to take it for the first few days at the maximum allowable dosage for your age and weight .
How Long Will It Take?
The length of treatment will depend on a few factors: how poorly your teeth are aligned, your bite, if you have impacted teeth, if you keep your appointments and if you follow the doctor's directions. Sometimes treatment can be as short as a few months, but on average treatment usually lasts about 2 years.
How Often Do I Need To Come In?
We will usually see you every 3 to 9 weeks for adjustments to your braces. If we don't see you for your monthly visit, it could mean another month in braces, so making your appointments is very important.
What Happens If A Bracket Comes Off?
If a bracket comes off please call our office. We will usually try to get you in and get the bracket back on, but if it is less than 2 weeks until your next visit we may just wait until your scheduled visit. But please call to let us know in advance and please bring in the bracket if it has come all the way out of your mouth.
What Happens If A Wire Comes Out?
Sometimes, the thin flexible wires will come out of the back brackets if it gets bent by a piece of food or some other object. If it is less than two weeks until your next appointment and not bothering your cheek just wait until your visit, we can fix it then. If its more than two weeks until your next visit or the wire is poking your cheek, just give us a call and we'll fix it as soon as we can.
