Retainers

Picture
ESSIX RETAINER
These retainers are made of a clear plastic material.  They surround the teeth in all three dimensions.
They are good choice for patients that are highly concerned about aesthetics.

Care:  They should be cleaned with either an effervescent denture tablet or a soft toothbrush without any toothpaste.  Toothpaste has an abrasive that will scratch the retainer and make them less aesthetic and more difficult to keep clean.

Caution:
should be taken that these retainers are not placed in the dishwasher, extremely hot water or placed in direct sunlight (such as being left in a warm car).  Since they are plastic, they are subject to warping and distorting, which will make them no longer fit properly.

NOTES OF CAUTION FOR ALL RETAINERS
  1. ALWAYS keep retainers in their case, unless you are wearing or cleaning them.  It is best to store them in your case in the bathroom.
  2. NEVER put your retainers in a paper towel or napkin, as this will likely result in the need to go "dumpster diving" or a trip to our office.
  3. NEVER put your retainer in your pocket.  It's a good way to break it.
  4. Keep your retainers away from pets and toddlers as they may find them fun to chew on.
  5. Take your retainers out when you eat or drink any beverage other than water.
